Laschal - Surgical & Restorative InstrumentsEH Suture ScissorsProblem A problem exists when a patient returns with sutures buried deeply within edematous or hypertrophic (swollen) tissue. Locating and severing the buried suture with traditional surgical or Littauer scissors can cause additional trauma, pain, bleeding and general discomfort to the patient. Solution ![]()
Procedure for using EH Suture Scissors to address buried sutures in edematous and hypertrophic (EH) tissue simply and safely:
![]() 1. Close EH Micropoint Suture Scissors and approach the fissure from directly above the suture. When closed, the blunt blades form a rounded, non-aggravating tip that will gently help probe and locate the suture.
![]() 2. Once located, center the scissors perpendicularly on the suture and elevate them slightly so they clear the suture. Open the blades slowly by reducing pressure on the spring steel handle, keeping the suture equidistant between blades. The tips gently separate the edematous borders of the tissue.
![]() 3. After parting the edematous borders, and with the scissors centered above the suture, advance the scissors slowly. Upon contact with the tissue, close the scissors to sever the suture completely. This procedure is easily done by feel due to the tactile sensitivity of the scissors. After cutting the suture, simply grasp the tag above the knot and remove with a forceps.
