Laschal - Surgical & Restorative InstrumentsMicroPoint ScissorsProblem A problem exists with conventional heat-treated scissors. Scissors do not function by cutting. They function by shearing. Conventional scissors do not stop functioning because the blades become dull. They fail because they stop shearing when the rivet becomes loose. This loosening occurs because the pressure with which the hardened blades meet is greater than the strength of the pivotal screw or rivet attachment. This inevitably leads to loosening and an incomplete shear at the tip, the most critical performance point of a scissor. Solution  MicroPoint Scissors from Laschal are a true breakthrough in cutting technology. Unlike conventional scissors, the patented spring steel blades of MicroPoint Scissors actually flex during use. Rather than transferring shear pressure back to the pivot point, the flexible blades "stress relieve" rivet pressure for lasting tightness. This permits a 300% greater "arc" or shearing angle between blades for a clean cut with less crushing of tissue and materials. Further, the shearing pressure stays constant for a consistent "MicroPoint" cut all the way to the tip without splaying.
