Laschal - Surgical & Restorative InstrumentsMatrix Band Forceps
Problem
A problem exists when trying to place, manipulate and remove sectional matrix bands during Class II composite restorations. Cotton pliers simply are not angled properly for posterior band placement, making the task more awkward and time consuming. Once the restoration is complete, removal from tight contacts can be difficult. Cotton pliers may not provide an adequate grip. While it may be used for removal, a haemostat is harder to control, more bulky and cannot offer the tactile sensitivity necessary for placement. Solution ![]() Matrix Band Forceps are engineered specifically to ease placement and removal of sectional matrix bands. Delivers instant tactile feedback for superior control while applying up to22lbs. (10kg) of anteriorly-directed pulling force.
Procedure for using Matrix Band Forceps to place and remove sectional matrix bands with greater "feel" and efficiency:
![]() 1. To place, grip the sectional matrix band in the center using just the tip of the forceps. This permits easy placement from the occlusal aspect.
![]() 2. Elevate the handle 15" towards the opposing arch and pull the band in the ANTERIOR direction with a SLIGHT occlusal force. This forms a mechanical lock with the band for maximum grip. Removal in the antero-occlusal direction eliminates risk of contact with opposing tooth structure as well as greatly reducing gingival laceration upon release.
![]() 3. Once the restoration is complete, engage the band at the buccal or lingual aspect using the full length of the jaw. Add strength and handling stability to the grip by squeezing the forceps toghether at the front of the handle.
